Whether you’re a home-owner, a county or municipal government, school or environmental group you can help donate, plant or dedicate a non-invasive tree to an organization of your choice. Buy a native tree for yourself, Tree-Mendous will give you great tips on planting, mulching and watering. Although it’s not mentioned they advocate non-toxic fertilizer we as consumers can offer a remedy. Mention it the next time you buy any tree or plant.

Chesapeake Climate Action Network

Alliance for Community Trees

Headquartered in College Park, Maryland, the Alliance for Community Trees has planted more than 7.8 million trees in urban landscapes nationwide, with assistance from 450,000 volunteers, since its inception in 1993. The group, which is composed of more than 100 sub-organizations, strives to support local grassroots organizations dedicated to tree-planting and tree-conservation. In Maryland, they work with the Center for Chesapeake Communities, Tree-Mendous Maryland, Herring Run Watershed Association, Parks & People Foundation, and the Beltsville-based Communities Committee.

Simplicity Matters-Earth Institute

Simplicity Matters is a forum that organizes meetings all over the MD, DC area that encourages individuals to make informed choices on leading a more sustainable future. Started in January 2002 some of their discussion titles have been Global Warming: Change CO2 Use , Choices for Sustainable Living, Exploring Deep Ecology , or topics of your own groups choosing. Center For The New American Dream

The Center for The New American Dream is a Washington DC based forum that "helps Americans consume responsibly to protect the environment, enhance quality of life, and promote social justice." It works with "individuals, institutions, communities, and businesses to conserve natural resources, counter the commercialization of our culture, and change the way goods are produced and consumed." They empower the public to live consciously, buy wisely, and make a difference.

Chesapeake Sustainable Business Alliance

The CSBA is an alliance that “educates the public on the importance of supporting the local economy, and encourages businesses and consumers to be environmentally sustainable and socially responsible.” Through local business ownership, economic justice, cultural diversity, and a healthy natural development, they build long-term economic empowerment and prosperity in communities. The public is educated to reduce material and energy costs, recycle and reuse waste, and buy and sell locally.
CSBA’s current initiatives include: recruiting and engaging members, expanding the successful Buy Local Baltimore campaign (http://www.buylocalbaltimore.com .com ), working on the Buy Fresh-Buy Local campaign, and supporting other initiatives including Biodiesel Cooperative (http://baltimorebiodiesel.org ), Recycle Bank, and the Green Walking Tour and identifying high-priority member needs to guide future programs.
