Garden Harvest

Based in Reisterstown, Md., Garden Harvest works to alleviate hunger and improve nutrition through the establishment of community farms, both nationally and internationally. With its “Milk and Egg Distribution,” “Donate Farm Equipment,” and “Donate a Farm Animal” programs, Garden Harvest helps provide impoverished areas — particularly in India and the Appalachian region of the U.S. — with the necessary agricultural tools to live comfortably.

Hedgeapple Farm

Located near Frederick, Md., on the banks of the Monocacy River, the Hedgeapple Farm has been in operation since the mid-1950s. It is home to more than 50 Black Angus cattle, all grass-fed and raised on sustainably-managed farmland. Working with the Frederick Soil Conservation District, the Maryland Department of Agriculture, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the farm also strives to enact best-management practices in its environmental impact.

Springfield Farm

Springfield Farm is a 67-acre tract of farmland that specializes in free-range animals — chickens, ducks, geese, sheep, rabbits, pigs and cows — tended to using sustainable-agriculture methods. No hormones, antibiotics or chemicals are used at the farm, which pledges in its mission statement to "follow a holistic approach to the greatest extent possible." In addition to its food and dairy products, Springfield Farm also offers landscaping, farm equipment, and snow-removal services.
